Read the chart. Understand the asset.
Explore crypto price charts while keeping the asset, trading venue, and risks in view.
Crypto assets can differ substantially in their design and characteristics. A familiar-looking chart does not make two assets interchangeable. This topic pairs basic chart reading with the context needed to understand what the displayed price represents.
A few things to understand first
Name the asset and quote
Write down the asset, quote currency, and source of a chart before comparing it with another. The symbol is a starting point for identifying the market, not a complete description of the asset or trading product.
Allow for sharp price changes
Bitcoin and ether are speculative assets whose prices can fluctuate widely. A short section of a chart may leave out much larger changes. Keep the time period visible when interpreting an example.
Look beyond the plotted price
A chart does not show every risk associated with ownership, custody, or a trading platform. Learning to read price is one part of understanding an asset. It does not replace examining how that asset is held or how the product works.
